How To Use This Guide & Special Characters

This guide is pretty striat forward, but it does contain Special Characters that you should know about such as:

Tip: This is a tip from me, I recommend that you use them.
Note: This is something that you should know if you already don't know it.
Attention: This is a warning, something that you should not do or attempt or is a Very Important Tip.

Introduction

I came up with this System when a forum I'm an Assitant Admin on started to get Spam. This spam ranged from nude women, child pornography, to people killing animals. needless to say after I started this System the spmming stopped. The spammer(s) even stated in their topics "think you can ban me dumb @$$e$; i'll just keep coming back." And he did as he had a Dynamicz IP Address.

Note: Dynamic IP Address is an IP Address that changes. You can Ban the IP Addresses, but it will not work because the address will just keep changing.

Well after I started this On Report System he/they stopped. You see the problam is you can ban them, but they may find a way to come back and just keep causing problams on your forum. Now this System may not work, but one thing is for sure if you show that you use it and do the punishments you claim you will do then you will increase how good this System works to 85%.

Tip: The "On Report System" only works if you dedicate yourself to making it work & follow the instructions in this guide to a"T".

You will learn the basics of the On Report System and how to report child porn sites to the FBI, so lets get started shall we?

Setting Up A Security Center

The first step in making a On Report System is setting up the Security Center. The Security Center goes at the top of your forum and no where else.

Attention: I put the Security Center at the top of the forum ( i. e. the First catagory) because its the first place members, vistors, & staff see. I highly recommend that you also put it at the top and make it the first catagory on your forum.

The Security Center shows what members have been breaking the rules, what they have done, and the actions taken against them.

Tip: I recommend that you use the Security Center for even minor stuff like a member advertising their site when its against the rules. The reason for this is it shows that you the Admin are dedicated to keeping your forum free from Spammers & Members who just break the rules every now & then.

Now lets set up the Security Center and the first theing you need to do is make a New Catagory, do this by:

Admin CP >> Forum Controls >> New Catagory

For the name of this catagory call it: Security Center, then click OK or/and Create New Catagory.

If you have many forums & catagories already made then you will have to move it to the top, do this by:

Admin CP >> Forum Controls >> Re-Order Catagory or Re-Order Forums

Note: Depending on the Forum Service you are using will depend on how you Re-Order your forums & catagories. If you don't see a Re-Order Catagory then click Re-Order Foruums.

Now Make the Catogory named Security Center the first catagory on your forum (i. e. number one).

On Report System

Now comes the second step in making the On Report System. Create a new forum, do this by:

Admin CP >> Forum Controls >> New Forum

Name the forum On Report, then make the Description of that forum, "Members that have broken the rules are placed On Report here." Then make sure you put it in the Security Center. As for the Permission Mask (located at bottom of Create New Forum Window) do the following:

Read: All (even Banned members).
Start & Reply Post: Any staff ( i. e. Administrators, Moderators, Super Moderators, & Security Staff).
Upload: No one

Staff Security Center

Now comes the third step in making the On Report System. Create another new forum, do this by:

Admin CP >> Forum Controls >> New Forum

Name the forum Staff Security Center then make the Description of that forum, "Important topics that require Administrative Attention. Topics moved here may also require FBI Attention." Then make sure you put it in the Security Center. As for the Permission Mask (located at bottom of Create New Forum Window) do the following:

Read: Administrator, Security Staff, & Guests
Start A Topic: No One
Reply Post: Administrator, Security Staff, & Guests
Upload: No one

Attention: The reason why guests can reply and view the Staff Security Center is because you may need proof to the FBI that someone posted Child Porn links or Images. The likely hood that you may need to show the FBI any Child Porn Links or Images posted on your forum by a member is no more then a 2% chance. With this reason I suggest you simply dont give guests the power to view or reply. If you ever feel the need to let them then do the following below.

Set a password to the Staff Security Center then if the need should ever come up that your forum host or FBI need to see these postes then pass the password to them. But as said its only a 2% chance so a password is not needed as long as you do the following:

Read: Administrator & Security Staff
Start A Topic: No One
Reply Post: Administrator & Security Staff
Upload: No one

The Dump Site

Now lets make the Dump Site which also plays a role in the On Report System.

Note: You can learn what this section & the other sections above are for in the section named: How To use It & How It Works.

Now lets set up the The Dump Site and the first theing you need to do is make a New Catagory, do this by:

Admin CP >> Forum Controls >> New Catagory

Name the catagory The Dump Site and place it at the very bottom of your forum ( i e the last catagory). You dont need to Re-Order it as all new Catagories ar placed at the bottom ( i e made the last catagory).

Now comes the second step in making The Dump Site. Create a new forum, do this by:

Admin CP >> Forum Controls >> New Forum

Name the forum Tash Bin then make the Description of that forum, "Topics that did not follow the rules are moved here." Then make sure you put it in The Dump Site. As for the Permission Mask (located at bottom of Create New Forum Window) do the following:

Read: Everyone
Start A Topic: No One
Reply Post: All Staff
Upload: No one

Now comes the third step in making The Dump Site. Create a new forum, do this by:

Admin CP >> Forum Controls >> New Forum

Name the forum Recycle Bin then make the Description of that forum, "Topics that are old or came from the On Report Forum are moved here.." Then make sure you put it in The Dump Site. As for the Permission Mask (located at bottom of Create New Forum Window) do the following:

Read: Everyone
Start A Topic: No One
Reply Post: No One
Upload: No one

Now The Dump Site is completed.

How To use It & How It Works

This section will teach you what each of the above sections do and how to use them so lets get started.

On Report

This section is ment to be seen by everyone so your members, staff, your forum host, & visitors see that you will not put up with Spammers & Rule Breakers. It also shows to those people who like tp link or post to CHild Porn Site that you will turn them in to the FBI ( see the section called: Reporting Child Pornography Sites for a list of websites that you can turn Child Porn sites in).

Tip: If you are under the age of 17 I recommend you let your host deal with child porn links & images. If they do not show any concerne then you may wont to turn them in as well. But most Free Forum Sevices will be willing to help you out if you need help turning a Child Porn site in to the FBI.

Attention: Child Porn Site are illegal through out the world so dont think that you can't get busted for posting or making such a site and though you may turn it in to the FBI its best to contact your local Police Department as they may have a better way or a Branch for such stuff.

Whan a member breaks the rules make a New Topic in the On report forum. make it as follows:

Example 1 of a On Report Topic:

Tip: Its best touse he/she or his/her because though they may claim they are female or male they could be lieing.

Example 2 of a On Report Topic:

Attention: Do not claim that the images/host will be turned into the FBI unless its Child Porn. Also make sure that if the Host is: Image Shack, Photo Bucket, Yahoo Hosting, or any other type of free service (website or forum) that you contacte them even if its just porn.

Staff Security Center

This is simply a place you move topics that require Administrative Attention (i. e. Child Porn or images of animals being killed). Topics in here also mean that they should be reported to the host or FBI.

Attention: When I say images of animals bing killed I mean images of people killing animals in a crule way. For example setting a kitten on fire. If the image is other then that it most likely just a simple sick image.

Topics that are moved here should stay in here with the image and links still in the post. Make sure to tell your host of these postes and what you are doing or they may close your forum. Once the matter has been delt with or you get notification that your help is no longer needed then delete the topic(s).

The Dump Site

The TRASH BIN is where you move topics that broke the rules. Make sure that when you move a topic that contained advertising or links/images or porn remove the links & images. Below is an exampleof two situations that could happen on your forum and how they should look in the TRASH BIN. I will show the Original post then the edited post.

The RECYCLE BIN is where you move old and/or completed On Report Topics that are completed. By keeping them you show your members, visitors, & host that you don't put up with spammers and have taken care of it. When moving a topic in here post in it and make the post look like the following (2 examples below):

Security Staff

This is a new feature in my On Report System (see On Report System Updates {v1.5} for details on this update). Fist off you need to set up a Staff Application for the Security Staff, copy and paste the application below:

Makeing The User Group & Promoting A Member

Once members of your forum apply and are given the position you need to make the position.

Tip: Try making the position before you advertise the position on your forum. Also visit: http://forums.narutofan.com/ as they have a special forum for posting your forum to get staff members and they have over 50,000 members.

So lets first make the user group called Security Staff; go to:

Admin CP >> Users and Groups >> Manage User Groups >> Create New User Group

For the name call it: Security Staff. Fill out the rest making sure they can delete, move, close, open, post in closed topics, view board offline, and Super Mod every where.

Then click OK or CREATE NEW USER GROUP button found at bottom of form.

No go to:

Admin CP >> Users and Groups >> Find/Edit/Suspend User

Search for the member then promote them to the position Security Staff. Once done click OK or the button at the bottom of the form.

Tip: Have your Security Staff, Moderators, Super Moderators, or any Staff read this guide so they better understand this position and the On Report System.

Other Advice

You can also try using the following options to help prevent spammers & rule breakers. Right now the On Report Sytem has a 50% chance of completly stopping people from spamming your forum and a 80% chance that the spam will simply be less. If you use the advice below you will in crease those numbers to 65% and 95%

Validation By E-mail

Turn it on by going to:

Admin CP >> System Settings >> Security & Privacy >> Security (Troublesome Users)
Make sure that the YES check box is clicked then click OK or the button found at the bottom of the form.

Tip: also make sure you dont allow Duplicate E-mail Address to be used.

Reporting Child Pornography Sites

Below is a list of website that you can report child porn site to so they are taken care of.

To see where the image is hosted at do the following:

1) Put your mouse over the image (if its a link just click it)
2) Now go and click Properties
3) Where it says URL write down or remember the url address
4) Then report the site by means of one of the sites above.

On Report System Updates (v1.5)

If you read my first Tutorial on this you will now know it has a few small updates from the last one you may have read. And to keep people up to date I have deleted or removed that Tutorial and replaced it with this. If you have not seen my first Tutorial on this then of course this will be new to you. The updates are not very big, but worth saying what they are and why I added them.

Security Staff

I added this because some people where E-mail me and/or PMing me about how they can't always be online. So I made this position to be filled by people who can be on every day and/or night.

Other Advice
